Professor Frank Griesinger has been the Director of the Department of Hematology and Oncology at the Pius-Hospital Oldenburg, Germany, since 2006 and is one of the founding members of the newly established Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oldenburg-European Medical School. He received his medical degree from the University of Frankfurt, Germany, in 1985. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN, USA, during which he was engaged in research into the basic science of leukemia and lymphoma, he returned to Germany to specialise in internal medicine and haematology-oncology, becoming Assistant Professor at the University of Göttingen in Germany in 1998.
Since his postdoctoral fellowship, Professor Griesinger has been interested in the molecular science of malignant diseases. He has been involved in the study and treatment of lung cancer for 25 years. He is currently Vice Speaker of the Steering Committee of the Thoracic Oncology Group of the Association of Internal Oncology, Germany, the representative of the German Society of Haematology and Oncology (DGHO [Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hämatologie und Onkologie]) in the S3 Guideline Programme of the German Cancer Society and lead author of the DGHO’s Onkopedia guidelines for lung cancer. He is also a member of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) Education Committee. He is involved in running clinical trials in lung cancer, coordinates the prospective registry CRISP in Germany and leads the NOWEL network, established for the optimal care of patients with lung cancer in northern Germany.
Professor Griesinger has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Medical Oncology Working Group, the American Society of Hematology (ASH), DGHO, the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), the German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM [Deutsche Gesellschaft für Innere Medizin]) and IASLC.
